Question post on..: Evolution Of Dark Aestethics

First Question Post! :)

Original Goth vs. Nowadays Goth

Compared to the original 80s Goths, what do you think of the current Goth image (clothing, make-up, attitude)? Do you prefer the 80s kind of Goth or the modern ones? Why?

Do you think present day Goths (also known as Babybats) are too focused on appearance?

Do you agree that the meaning and image of goth has become a little too much dispersive and has lost the original concept?

Share your opinions! Thanks!

Nowadays goths are too focused on clothing. If you say you are goth while not wearing any goth clothes they won't believe you. It's all about appearance!! I believe the original concept has been forgotten. Once it was about rebelling and being in constrast with the colorful fake happy society, now it looks more about a cowardly kind of rebellion..goth has become a fashion..it's not a cultural movement anymore.. -K-

The 1980's Goths were a lot more maturer than today's Goths. I think they were much more true and sophisticated. The music was so much better in Analogue too. Then you had the Strawberry Switchblade types. But you don't seem to see that sort of style around nowadays. I think its a shame, that we've lost touch with that sort of style.

Personaly, I feel that Goths have evolved more and more for the better. There isn't anything wrong with having concerns for outer appearance because that is a part of being human and everyone can have insecurities. Elder Goths are just too focused on the appearance of younger Goths that they don't realize that the thing they dislike about younger Goths they are also doing as well. The orginal concept of Goth is still here because nothing was set in stone about what is Goth.

As an older goth (37) I actually prefer the present styles to the older ones. I think we sometimes romanticize the past and look at it with rose colored glasses. There were good things going on 20 years ago and there's good things now. There were annoying elitists 20 years ago and annoying ones now. The subculture is growing and evolving, which is a good thing! If it didn't it would stagnate and die.

personally i think that the goth subculture is something like a living organism..Every living organism changes over the years.New forms of macabre are inveted and goths are there to transform those forms into music clothing and attitude.
